The Bronze Statue of Armin T. Wegner

Alice Melikian in her studio in Los Angeles.

In 2006, sculptor Alice Melikian completed the statue of Armin T. Wegner, commissioned by the Armin T. Wegner Society of USA as a gift to the citizens of Wuppertal in Germany. The bronze statue was then prominently displayed in the lobby of the Gymnasium Bayreuther Straße, strategically situated between monuments commemorating the two world wars.

In 2008, Dr. Detlef Appenzeller, director of the historic Gymnasium Bayreuther Straße in Wuppertal, Germany, visited Los Angeles on a goodwill trip. During his visit, he met with Alice Melikian, the creator of the bronze statue of Armin T. Wegner, which had been unveiled in the lobby of the Gymnasium Bayreuther Strasse two years before in 2006. Dr. Appenzeller presented Alice Melikian with a certificate of appreciation from Wuppertal’s mayor, Peter Jung.
